A Scandinavian Holistic e-Fitness Concept

Presented by Ingrid Kristiansen

What are we?

Ingrid Kristiansen, probably the best and most well-rounded female long distance runner in history,  will electronically guide you through the world of holistic e-fitness, -the Scandinavian Holistic e-Fitness Concept- which includes your mind, your spirit and your body.

This holistic e-fitness concept is available and valid for all of us, whatever our sex, age or lifestyle. It is a valuable tool for people who are conscious about their health and fitness, for people who are exercising on a fun level, as well as for the elite athlete. We will begin at the foundation with  the basic Philosophy

The basic philosophy is like the prospectus in a business. It defines the basic platform and values for the activity. To achieve something in life one needs the framework and guide of planning and goal setting. We will teach you how to work with your planning and how to be focused on your goals and achievements.

It is not enough to wish for something in life and then expect that things will happen just by themselves. We will teach you how to really reach your goals through mental power or mental training: the key word here is the power of your thoughts. The Mental chapter covers methods to reach both small as well as major goals. We also teach you how to take control of difficult situations, and how you can deal with mental blocks or personal complexes.

In the Physical chapter we will teach you the simple, basic theory of physical activity or training.
In the Running chapter we talk about running and training in general, focusing on how to develop your endurance. The Marathon, and the special training this very demanding distance requires, is discussed in this last chapter.

In our pages you will find information about both physical and mental activities: training of the mind and body based on a holistic concept. The  mind and the body are dependant on each other if you want to function in balance and harmony. This philosophy becomes the platform for activities on all levels, whether you are interested in a healthy lifestyle, fitness exercise or elite sport.

Our experience is based on Ingrid Kristiansen's career as a World Class Olympian athlete in cross country skiing and long distance running. Our core message is one of health, endurance and the power of our thoughts combined with a normal family life plus good doses of spirit, enjoyment and fun.

How should I use these pages?

You can go directly to the Table of content, where you should get a broad overview of all topics covered. If you have a question or key word, go to the Search page in order to find what you are looking for. Many of the topics are such that a printout of the pages can be useful if you want to go into them more deeply in order to more fully learn and understand the material.

Each main topic or chapter can be read separately from the others, but if you start with the Summary, and continue with the Philosophy, Planning, Mental, Physical, Running and the  Marathon chapters in that order, we hope there will be a more complete buildup of logic and basic understanding.

Objectives

We hope to impart to you the ability to have positive experiences in the spheres of healthy lifestyle, physical and mental exercise, and elite sport. If we are able to stimulate you to incorporate physical and mental activities as a part of your lifestyle, then it is our hope that you will continue doing so on a long-term basis. Most of the trend leaders today are focused on success and failure with an emphasis on cool, short term fashion and style, but with little or no content.

Who are we?

Ingrid and Arve Kristiansen are responsible for these pages. The last 10 years we have been working with EBAS Consulting AS, a consulting company owned and operated by us.

Ingrid has a B.Sc. degree in Bio-Engineering, and she has been a professional athlete for more than 10 years.

No other runner in history, male or female has concurrently held the  World records on:

  • 5,000m track

  • 10,000m track

  • 15 km on road

  • half marathon

  • marathon

Ingrid has, in addition, probably been the most well-rounded long distance runner in history. She has been a :

  • IAAF World champion on Track

  • IAAF World champion on the Road,  2 times

  • IAAF World champion in Cross country.

She has represented Norway in 3 Olympic Championships, both in the winter and summer games. Her best Olympic position is her 4th place finish in the Los Angeles Olympic marathon. In the 10,000m Olympic final in the Seoul Olympics she was clearly the favorite to win the distance but, during the final, her achilles tendon broke, so she had to drop out of the race. Her personal best had been almost 1 minute better than the second best in that final.

Ingrid is a member of the IAAF Cross Country and Road Running Committee, and she is the Vice President of the Norwegian Runner's Association.

Ingrid has won most of the major marathons around in the world:

  • Boston Marathon, 2 times winner

  • New York City Marathon, 1 time winner

  • Chicago Marathon, 1 time winner

  • Houston Marathon, 2 times winner

  • London Marathon, 4 times winner

  • Stockholm Marathon, 3 times winner

Ingrid has always combined her career as an athlete with studies, work and a normal family life with children. She has 3 children: Sondre 14 years, Marte 17 and Gaute 24 years old. This way of life is part of the holistic approach or philosophy because a normal family life for the elite competitor is the most compatible lifestyle for personal diversity and growth.

Ingrid's personal bests:

  • 800m: 2.09

  • 1,500m: 4:05

  • 3,000m: 8:34

  • 5,000m: 14:37

  • 10,000m: 30:13

  • 15 km: 47.15

  • Half marathon: 1:06:40

  • Marathon: 2:21:05

Arve is responsible for the production of these pages. He has been active in physical exercise on a recreational level the last 30 years. He has always been beaten by his wife, and has personal bests in the 5 km of around 16 min, 10 km of approx. 32 min, half marathon in 1:10 and marathon in 2:34. Our experience therefore  covers all levels from the Olympic elite athlete to the casual exerciser or recreational runner.

Arve has a B.Sc. in business management (BI), a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (NTNU, siv.ing) and he has a MBA degree from Regis University, Denver, USA. None of us have any formal education in sport and fitness, but we think we have a lot of practical experience and analytical knowledge in these fields. With 3 kids, we have the daily challenge of being good role models for our kids on the most fundamental level: what we say has to be what we do. This is not always easy, but if you don't practice your words as parents your words will have absolutely no meaning.

We have put a lot of effort into the communication process in these pages. We have been conscious about not creating any guilt feeling among the readers, and we have also tried to be careful about making too many black and white statements and easy conclusions; these topics will never have one exact and clear answer. We have too much respect for the human mind and body to make too easy conclusions.

As  covered in the Mental chapter, a positive message will create more positive feelings and emotions in the readers. If we are successful with this, it is our hope that we can help people achieve better performances and better health. Good health is the most fundamental factor in life; without good health all other things in life have little or no value or meaning.

Thank you to Alan Traister, he has helped us with the English language in this introduction!
